Anti-Human Trafficking Educational Resources

The Empowering Caregivers resource is not meant to provide introductory education around human trafficking. If you find yourself wanting more introductory education around human trafficking, we recommend the following resources. We have attempted to provide national resources, but you may find regional resources to better suit your local context.

  • The Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking is a national charity dedicated to ending all types of human trafficking in Canada and exists to create a national strategy for change. Their website provides detailed information around human trafficking including:

  • This webpage provides information about human trafficking including how to recognize forms of human trafficking, understanding how human trafficking happens in Canada, and educational tools including infographics.

    This webpage provides additional information about human trafficking including statistics and federal legislation around human trafficking.

  • This webpage includes definitions for and types of human trafficking, recruiting tactics, risk factors, warning signs, and the role of the RCMP in intervention.

  • MCIS Language Solutions provides a comprehensive course on human trafficking for service providers. Their course includes 9 eLearning modules, a handbook and a video resource, and takes approximately 10-12 hours to complete. Each online training module is followed by a short quiz. Participants who complete the online training modules can request a Certificate of Completion that will list all the modules they have completed. The training program also includes a handbook that covers the same topics as the online modules in an alternative format and a toolkit for service providers. Numerous additional documents and links to resources are provided for participants who would like to learn more on the topics covered in the online training program.

  • The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) offers free online training for addiction and mental health workers.

    The training is meant to help service providers recognize and respond to the needs of human trafficking survivors. After taking the course, participants will be able to:

    • Define human trafficking, including types and indicators

    • Identify common impacts on human trafficking survivors, especially in the area of mental health and addiction

    • Describe approaches that mental health and addiction service providers can use to help human trafficking survivors.
